The effects of the Kalamazoo Promise Scholarship on college enrollment, persistence, and completion
College Promise' programs reaching more students in California
"Programs offering financial assistance backed up by support services to encourage college attendance and completion  — sometimes extending the offer when students are still in elementary school, or even earlier  — are proliferating at a rapid pace in California."
Rancho Cordova Students Get Free First Year Of College
"Megan Pinnell won’t have to worry about how she’s going to pay for her first year of college. The city is the first in the area to create a college promise program offering free tuition to all of its 440 high-school graduates who enroll at Folsom Lake College."
SoCal students flock to program with free community college tuition
"Officials at the L.A. Community College District said enrollment for the inaugural group of students starting classes later this month is also higher than expected at East L.A. College and L.A. Valley College, while the nine campuses altogether are expected to reach the district-wide enrollment target of 5,000 students."
Enhancing Promise Programs to Improve College Access and Success
"Though the nation has made great strides in increasing access to higher education, college graduation rates remain low. At community colleges, only a fifth of students graduate within three years. Community college students face many barriers to success: a lack of academic preparation, a confusing maze of requirements, a lack of support on campus, and costs such as books and transportation not covered by financial aid. College Promise programs, which now number more than 200, provide financial support to pay local students’ tuition and fees."
